Dinner at Amsterdam Brewhouse

It’s officially August which means that our Canadian Summer is slowly coming to an end.  My fingers are crossed on the warm weather carrying over in September since itI feel like I haven’t really had a chance to ENJOY the summer.  So in continuing my Patio Pursuits series I’ve been trying to suggest places with outdoor seating whenever I have plans.  This balmy summer evening found us at Amsterdam Brewhouse which I’ve only ever been to once before.

It takes up a pretty spacious area on the waterfront and has a plenty of outdoor patio space which can sometimes be a rare find in this lovely city of ours.  I’ve only ever sat outside and every time I venture inside I’m always taken aback by the huge space.  We did have to wait for a patio seat – about half an hour on this Tuesday and they have this interesting policy of not providing you with an approximate wait time.  During our entire wait the line up didn’t die down once.  Along with good ol’ fashioned tables they also have a row of muskoka chairs if you’re looking to just enjoy a beverage.

Once we were seated we ordered our drinks and food and  just sat back and enjoyed the view which in all honesty is probably the best part about this place.  The food is okay but pretty much your standard pub grub.  I have done one their 4 beer flights which is actually a lot of fun especially if the whole table participates.  Fun way to find out the kind of beer you like even though it will all be from the Amsterdam Brewery.  On this night the service was painfully slow.  It took almost 10 minutes and two tries for my one friend just to get a clean wine glass.  The food also took way too long based on our simple order of wings, fries and brussels sprouts.

So if you’re looking for a good view of the lake, some time outside and are willing to wait, this isn’t a bad spot to check out.
