Recently, I’ve been asked a lot about what new restaurants I’ve tried and it made me realize that I haven’t blogged about an actual restaurant or meal in a really long time.
Since it’s a new year I thought it might be good way to get back into the swing of things by posting an actual food review. You guys all know my love for brunch and brunch food so I was happy to find myself at a Toronto staple recently – La Societe in Yorkville. Yorkville is not an area I spend tons of time in but my friends and I wanted to check out the Christian Dior exhibit at the ROM so figured we should make a day out of it.
La Societe is another restaurant owned by the ICON Ink group, you know the ones that own everything in the city. It’s a beautiful space with stained glass windows & celings, mosaic tiled flooring, bistro tables and large banquette seats. The cuisine is French inspired and it’s no coincidence that most of their wait staff have a French background. On this Sunday, the place was quite busy already so we were excited to peruse the menu and make our selections.
Between the three of us we had:
Parisian Ham Benedict
Croque Monsieur
Buttermilk Pancakes
I ordered the Benedict and had a taste of the pancakes which I was instantly jealous of. I never opt for sweet options for breakfast/brunch but always want just a bite or two to satiate my craving. The pancakes were so soft, not too sweet and perfectly topped with fresh fruit and whipped cream. The Benedict was also super delicious, the fresh ham versus sausage or bacon was a delightful touch and the side of potatoes were the perfect pairing. Solid brunch food with a French twist.
What I love about La Societe is that you get an upscale experience without paying the unnecessary upscale prices. It’s a perfect place to host a group for a special occasion but be warned that you will probably be forced on their fixed price menu. Oh and on weekends you can indulge in bottomless mimosas too. Sold!
