Dinner at King Rustic

Happy New Year!  Yes, I am one of those people that will greet you with a HNY greeting if its the first time I am seeing you in the new year.  Don’t worry, I only let this go on for the month of January.

My first post of 2016 will be another PETITE POST on an adorable restaurant that had been on my list for a really long time – King Rustic.  I had first stumbled upon this place going through my Instagram feed and it looked like a super chill, quaint spot with delicious looking food.

Was getting together a few lovely ladies after a long time so suggested we try it out.  We were also all participating in Dry January so a place with delicious food to make up for the lack of drinking was highly necessary.

King Rustic is located at King and Strachan and boasts itself as a trendy, local resto-lounge.  Don’t let the words resto-lounge fool you, its not the douchey atmosphere you may think of when you hear those words.  True to its name its a super adorable spot adorned with carefully selected, detailed rustic decor.  Think exposed break, simple lighting, candles in mason jars , dim lighting and large, heavy wooden tables.   Its a perfect spot for a low key evening with friends or a cozy date for two.

The menu is made of what I can only describe as comfort food classics.  Meatballs, pastas, fried chicken, tacos and burgers.  For our spread we decided on:

Rustic Chicken Meatballs – White meat ground chicken, adobo seasoning, poblano garlic sauce, mozzarella cheese, panini pressed ciabatta bread
Mama’s Perogies – home-made greek yogurt dough, stuffed with Rustic’s garlic mash, brown butter sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, pan-seared then topped with sour cream, crisp turkey bacon, and crunchy fried onions
Brie and Pine Nut Skillet – melted Brie cheese, topped with fire-roasted pine nuts, drizzled with Turkish honey, served with crunchy ciabatta bread
Sides of Cajun Fries and Roasted Brussel Sprouts

As much as I love rustic decor, the lighting SUCKS for good photography.  I don’t think there was one thing that we did not love, every plate was literally left with crumbs.  The crowd favourite was by far the meatballs – full of flavour, juicy, saucy and cheesy.  The perogies were the runner up for sure especially since we found out they are made to order and the restaurant’s specialty.  Service was super friendly and quick.

Would for sure come back especially once Dry January is over and I can take advantage of their craft beers and cocktails.
